To see the devastation up close and in person is a truly humbling experience in this beautiful location

Beautiful outdoor memorial. Lots of interesting tanks, cannons, and miscellaneous remnants. Interesting stairway leading up, around the side, and down the back end of what was used as a hiding bunker and looks like the back wall was blown out. Small gravel parking area across the street, which runs right in front of the park. The Last Command Post and the Okinawa Peace Memorial are side by side, all part of the same park. In front of the Okinawa Peace Memorial - a large open concrete platform - we saw a group of Asian visitors meditating and honoring an extended moment of silence, which was beautiful, peaceful and fitting, versus some of the other scenic points nearby with sad histories, in which tourists flocked to take selfies.

A must visit historic site in Saipan. Walking distance to the aptly placed Korean memorial and a long walk downhill to the shoreside suicide cliff.

I can't imagine traveling to Saipan and not stopping here. Spend some time looking up the history of the island and people. Much respect for those caught between the US and Japan on the Pacific Islands.

I love visiting the military sites, especially in the Pacific and this is no different. Visiting this along with the other significant site on the island was well worth it. With the island being pretty small, you can read up on the history and then visit all the sites in a reasonable time.
